Growing... and not

Run: 3.2mi/33:00

My lettuce is coming along nicely. While the romaine (off to the left) is not so great, the butter lettuce is growing great.
 My tomatoes? Not so much.
I've already planted some new tomato seeds, hoping that I can change things the second time around.

Lettuce on the prowl

You better believe I have some things growing. Now, like I've said before, I know nothing about gardening, but I am at least water once a day, and I planted them kinda according to instructions, and they've sprouted and gotten bigger. So I  must be doing something right, right?
No worries, the weeds have been pulled.

My tomato plants have been inside for quite a long time, so I finally set them out by the garden this morning to acclimate them to the weather before transplanting them into the garden. Doesn't it sound like I know what I'm talking about?

Sprouts

Yesterday was a hectic day. It was hectic because I spent most of my weekend doing absolutely nothing, and put off everything until yesterday. It was prepping for a new roommate, preparing things for class, planning an adult English class lesson, running to the store, finishing making and packaging goodies to sell, teaching, Skyping, and greeting new people.

Mom and Dad came back from a quick trip the States and brought me what I needed all last week: a watering can. Hallelujah. That, and some small pots for planting herbs. They are good to me.

My lettuce sprouted the other day.
I guess you probably can't see the sprouts in the second picture, but they're there, right beside Martín the barnacle, resting in his eternal home.

I think I now know what mothers feel like after all of their hard work goes unappreciated. You're welcome, Lucy. I'm so glad I spent all that time making your dog bed.

Grow, tomatoes, grow!

Yesterday I woke up to find that my tomato seeds have sprouted. I planted them last Monday (the 21st) and I just saw them sprout yesterday. I'm excited, as that means they're not dead. I'm thinking they may need more warmth and so I'm trying to figure out how to make that happen.
It's Spring!

Gradening

My neck is still sore, which means no running. I popped a bunch of ibuprofen this morning to make it through teaching today, so right now I feel great and wonderful. We'll see what happens when it wears off this afternoon.

I decided I wanted to garden.

I have never grown anything before.

Well, that's not true. One time my friend and I tried to grow some vegetables in college. It didn't really work. So I'll try again. I made a garden bed with help from my visitors last week. I planted some tomatoes in small pots indoors, and this morning I planted lettuce seeds in the bed.
You can see that my availability of soil may not be so great - but what do I know? I planted Butterleaf and Romaine lettuces.

When I first approached the bed this morning, I realized that my greatest enemy may be Lucy, because I found a large round hole where she had apparently gotten comfortable. If there's a fence around this in the future, you'll know why.
