Photo Montage Thursday

Run: 4 miles/42:00

Because now playing with my camera is how I pass the time, and because I have nothing else to write today, I present a photo montage of my life:
I swear I didn't make it on purpose.

That light means there's something a-cookin' in the kitchen.
This is what was a-cookin: Homemade Chili
 My roommate thinks she's Indian.
 Vans.

She's tired of me taking her picture.

And lastly, a fair warning - this is my wonky nail. This is cautionary tale against acrylic nails.

It's Raining Crafts!

Run: 3.6 miles/36:00

Mile repeats today, so I jogged 1 mile, and then was on target to run 1 mile in 8:54 (faster than I have ever run), and I did it in 8:45, which was nice. Jogged for half a mile, then did another 8:54 mile, except that by then I was tired and I did it in 9:05. Oops. I should have jogged another mile to cool down, but I was tired, and walked home.

Gosh darnit, I don't like it when the doctors are right. I went to bed early last night, but by the end of that second mile repeat I was spent. Done. Finished. Terminada. Tomorrow will be better, I'm sure.

Edited to add: I just looked at my training paper, and I guess I can't read, because I was supposed to do 8:25 minute mile repeats. That means I can't read numbers. I don't know if I could book it that fast. This is like... serious training.

In other crafty crafterson news, since I don't have anything newsworthy to put up today, I'll post some pictures of a "quilt" I did in September. I write "quilt" in quotation marks because I basically did whatever I wanted on it. I didn't hand quilt it, and it didn't turn out especially great, but that's okay because it was my first attempt. A friend of mine recently had a baby, and I gave this to her.

It looks good from far away, doesn't it? Just don't look too close! I learned a lot while doing this. I'm in the process of making another one (yes, for another friend, having another baby), and so hopefully it will be even better. That's usually how it happens - they get better with each one.

Fall = Scarves

I had a request to post these pictures. I made a scarf for a friend. She picked out the color, I picked out the stitch. It actually turned out really well. And since my camera is so awesome, I took great pictures!

If you crochet, then I can tell you it's really easy. You chain an odd number across, according to the width you want. I did 21. I did 1 whole row of double crochets. Then, on each row, you start the row with a single crochet and a double crochet in the same stitch. Skip a stitch and put a single crochet and half double crochet in the next stitch, all the way across. You should end up doing the two stitches in the last stitch in the row. Chain 1, flip it around, do it over. Voila! This stitch gives it a nice texture and weight.

I had a really bad night of sleep. Well, it was a bad night of little sleep. That's more accurate. I will spare you the details, because I told the details to Stevie this morning and she was none too thrilled. Put simply, I am and was all plugged up, coughing, and generally uncomfortable. I went to the doctor this morning. He looked at me and said "Meghan, you just have a cold. You're being a wimp."

Okay, he didn't say that, but I could see it in his eyes. Apparently it is just a cold. I guess I never get colds like this (the pressure in the head, the completely plugged up sinuses, the sore tired, being tired, the nasty cough). This stinks! I took the day off. I have Sunday Schools lessons to type up, I'm in no mood or condition to sing "Five Little Monkeys" four times today, but most of all, I don't want to pass this along to unsuspecting children. So there.

The doctor gave me some drugs. He told me to drink lots of fluids and rest. When he said rest, he also said no exercise. I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that. If I go to bed extra early tonight, I'm sure I can still do my run tomorrow. I've got some mile repeats to slaughter.

Revolutionary

Viva La Revolucion!
Today is the observed holiday for November 20th, the day commemorating the beginning of the Mexican Revolutionary War. This war was set out to overthrow Diaz's government, which was a dictator rule. I don't know enough about it, but the war was aimed to bring the government back to the people of Mexico. If you've ever seen pictures of Emiliano Zapata or Pancho Villa, they are from this war. A lot of people have today off from work, our kids don't go to Kindergarten. On Saturday there will be a big parade (this is the 100th anniversary).
So this morning, we had some little revolutionaries walk in for breakfast. The mustaches are just the icing on the cake.
 Uriel dons a mustache.
 Paula in her patriotic dress.
 Emmanuel is loaded! Watch out!
 Ashbye and Sara.
 Ohhhh. There's that mustache!
 Jonathan and Obed.
 Daniel
 Hanibal
 Andres and Rodrigo
 Esteban, ready for action.
Oh yeah! Esteban and his woman, Yulissa
 The littlest revolutionary, Diego.
 Usiel and his mustache
Waiting for rice and milk

Ahem

Run: 5.1 miles/54:15

Yeah, that should say "5.1 miles/52:30". Instead, I'm sick, and running five miles this morning was not fun at all. It was fun for Lucy, she found something to eat. I did not find anything to eat. Instead, I gutted out five miles when all I really wanted was to be in bed. And to tell you the truth - Lucy bailed on me the last tiny bit. We ran past our gate, and although I tried to coax her to keep going, she looked at me and thought "you're crazy", and went home. I got abandoned by my dog.

Yesterday at church the man I sat next to was trying his hardest to keep his rattle-lung coughing inside. And he did a good job at it, actually (I was impressed!). But, since we like to shake hands at church, I had to shake his hand three times.

And then I woke up in the middle of the night with that familiar rattle-lung cough. Yum.

On top of it all, it is really hard to get out of a warm bed when all you have waiting for you are running shorts. At least it makes me start running so I can get warm!!

Sports Sunday

Run: 8.1 miles/1:20:25 (sometimes I find myself sighing a big sigh in the middle of a long run. I think it's a sign of boredom.)

So this can be like Sports Update Sunday, where I talk about anything sports related. Last night there was a huge fight between Manny Paquiao....

And Antonio Margarito....

We had to go down to a local restaurant to watch it, and it was pretty crowded. Margarito being from Mexico meant everybody in town wanted to see the fight, especially since Margarito is from Tijuana, which is not far from here.

Pacquiao is a little animal who fights like a champion. He was about 17 pounds lighter and 4 inches shorter than Margarito, but Pacquiao won all 12 rounds and basically let Margarito's face take it. Margarito still fought, and I thought he fought well, he just wasn't a match for Pacquiao, who nows holds 8 championships, two more than any other fighter.

Margarito's face was so bad that when they flashed to pictures of his wife, I felt bad that she had to go home to that Margarito's face. I won't post a picture of it here, just because I think most of my readers are ladies who don't want see Margarito's mashed face.

In other sports news, I officially stink at fantasy basketball. I do not have the time, interest, or inclination to be dropping and adding people from my team like boyfriends. My league has made it completely open, where you can add and drop as you wish, which doesn't really feel like a team playing. It feels more like cheating. I got an e-mail yesterday from a league member asking me why i dropped someone I dropped because he was my best player (or so this guy said). I wrote back and told him I didn't need him to rub my mistakes in my face. Boys. Geesh.

Oregon Ducks beat Cal yesterday, 15-13, which means Duck offense went off on vacation somewhere. Maybe Fiji? At least they won, but those points don't help too much in the standings.

Beavers lost. Of course.

Blazers' record is 6-5, which makes me feel better than a Beavers' fan, but still. We had a horrible game against the Lakers last Sunday, wherein I felt embarrassed. Apparently Brandon Roy was pulled from last night's game due to knee pain.
Just great. Just what we need - more injuries. We've already got a ragtag team and now our star player has knee pain? Get real!

This has been your Sports Sunday with Meghan. I ran 8 miles this morning and I'm tahred.

Um, yes, please.

I was going to have leftover salad for lunch. Yes, I was. I love salad. I super love salad. Salad and I are best buds.

But uh... who can turn down homemade tamales? Seriously - our cook, Cande, doesn't ever really make them at the daycare - they are labor intensive! But today she did. And they were great. I've eaten a lot of tamales and these things were.... amazing. Yum. Big kudos to Cande for being so great. I didn't take any pictures. I was too busy eating.

You know who needs kudos? Child photographers. Good golly. I just took pictures of our staff and classes and a group of kids is no easy thing to photograph. They wiggle, complain, move, shade their eyes, and are silly. School photographers need Oscars. Or Nobel Peace Prizes.
